Ed Sullivan, herein referred to as "Dead Sullivan", want to return to live TV(almost live). He correctly believes that he can use his exhaulted position in heaven to reunite a group of legends from the world of Rock and Roll, that he introduced to the world, and that now are sharing the stage with him in heaven.
